Mesalazine
Mesalazine has an anti-inflammatory effect. In chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, an increase in the metabolites of the arachidonic acid pathway is observed in both the cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways, and it seems that mesalazine controls inflammation by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and reducing prostaglandin production in the colon.
